Dear Serge,
In lesson 110, you ask if there is a better way of translating
“毛手,毛脚.” i.e. Hairy hands, hairy feet. The best way to describe
someone who uses an excessive amount of physical contact inappropriately is
to describe them as “a bit too touchy-feely”. However to describe someone as
touchy-feely, WITHOUT the adverb “too”, implies that the subject is
comfortable with the level of physical contact, although not in every case.
i.e. “he’s very touchy-feely,” could potentially be interpreted to mean that
the subject is uncomfortable with the amount of physical contact, but not
necessarily. However is the subject uses the adverb “too” i.e. “too touchy
feely”, that means the subject is almost certainly uncomfortable with the
level of physical contact.
A particularly delightful, albeit slightly archaic way of describing some
who had “毛手,毛脚” would be to call them “lecherous”.
I hope this is of some help. I would like to take this opportunity to say
how much I thoroughly enjoy using your podcasts and other materials. If you
have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
Kind Regards
Hubert Bristow
