    Thanks for that interesting lesson. I would like to know if the word teng2 (pain) has multiple pronunciations? In the recording of my textbook, the speaker pronounces it as teng, but in your lesson it sounds more like tong or toong.

  2. Hi Sebastian,

    Yes, this word has two pronunciations. Teng2 and tong4. Actually, they are two different characters: 疼(teng2) and 痛(tong4).

    (疼)Teng2 is more often used by Chinese from Northern China, while (痛) tong4 by Chinese from South China and Taiwan.

    So it’s a matter of your personal taste which version to use.
